Submission for New Play Reading Series

The Play Reading Series connects new plays to new audiences. Happening every first Thursday of the month at Western Sky Bar & Taproom, scripts selected will be lightly staged and read by actors to a general audience. And yep, that audience will be bar patrons.This series seeks to bring cool, new plays to a “non-traditional” theatre space, and hopefully bring non-regular theatre crowds to hear your cool, new play! 

UnLeashed Theatre believes in the power of diverse stories and artists. We are a women-owned company and are committed to holding space for women and other underrepresented groups to create with joy and care. We welcome and actively seek playwrights and content from a wide variety of experiences including artists who identify as female, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, having visible or non-visible disability, and artists of color.

Every month we will be featuring one script. When deciding which scripts to select for the reading, we consider: 

-Length. Ideally we are looking for pieces that will run 1hr to 1.5hrs when read, or roughly 60-120 pages.

-Content. We will be looking for pieces that we think will succeed in this kind of environment, and will spark interesting conversation with this kind of audience. 

-Overall programming. We will be considering overall programming when selecting pieces, to make sure the series offers variety month to month.

-Values. We will not be selecting any plays that are counter to our values. You can read more about our values here. 

For each event we will provide a QR code survey for the audience to provide feedback. The survey will have some basic feedback questions, and you will have the opportunity to include any specific questions you have about the piece. Of course we would love for you to attend the event if you are local, but if not we are happy to provide a filmed copy of the reading.
